Links For Starters
If you are not yet a "pro" regarding the vast riches of the WWW, don't despair. To help you get started, Insight Inside has collected the most useful sites of the worldwide community:
(If you have become a "pro" after visiting all these sites, check out Inside Insights favourites: Say-Link The 7 Seas!)
Note that clicking on the link will open up a new window; to return to this page, just close the site-window.
- Our favourite search engine is Google. Though technically not the most innovative anymore, it is extremely straight-forward to use, features an image search and rates the results according to relevance. Normally, the site you are looking for is really among the top 10 or so.
- Still one of the best search-engines is Yahoo. It is actually powered by Google, but it has the tremendous advantage that the sites are classified and sorted, which makes the quality of the hits a lot better.
- Yahoo also offers a lot of other interesting services, like My Yahoo, which offers a personalized homepage, stock quotes, a lot of clubs, etc. Take a good look around, there is a lot to be found!
- Still the best online bookstore (and much more, actually) and THE place to see best-practice e-marketing at its best, is Amazon.com.
- Ebay is the biggest online auction house. Browse around and wonder at the vast spectrum of things you will find on auction there. Tip: Search for "Jaguar" if you thought that people don' buy cars via the Internet. ;-)
- Need some taylor-made shirts or trousers? Order them online at Bivolino!
- If you are interested in the WWW, you have to be interested in MP3, the world-wide format for music which undoubtedly has changed the entire music industry. Good starting point is MP3.com.
- Consumers, as has been said before, are all powerful in the New Economy. This includes disappointed consumers creating so-called "hate-sites." Untied is an example (a hate site for United Airlines). A FMCG example is the site about hating Mentos. In the old days, consumers told maybe some friends about their bad experiences; In the E-conomy they use the multiplier effect of the Internet and tell millions. Frightened? You'd better be.
- Shopping for clothes online is too difficult, you think? You have tro try on clothes before you buy? Well, you can! Check out Lands' End!
- The Barbie-site shows that the target group for site is not 55-year-old techno-nerds any more, and is a brilliant example on how you can add value on the Internet. For example, you can build and order your personal barbie!
- Interested in the fine arts? Visit the Hermitage Museum. Online, of course. (Don't worry, there is also a non-russian version available).
- And finally, after a hard days' surfing, relax at the Dilbert Zone. IMHO one of the best sites ever!
